Unit 09 - Transitions
Transitions
3 types - Cut, Dissolve, and Wipes
Cuts - Change in perspective
Dissolve - Change in time
Wipe - You are more focused on the wipe than the story usually.
* You must have handles on the beggining of the in-coming clip and the end of the out-going clip.
Ways to do transitions
- Show rubberbands and use the pen tool (timeline or viewer)
- Select an edit point and go to Effects > Audio or Video Transitions > Name of transition
- Drag a transition from the Effects tab to an edit point
- Cmd + T
Audio Transitions Cross Fade 0 dB vs. +3 dB - OdB ramps down the outgoing clip and ramps up the incoming clip in a linear fashion. +3 dB ramps using a smooth angle and typically is a smoother transition.
Explore Transitions loaded into the viewer.
Try adding different transitions and seeing what you can change. Try rippling and rolling an edit when there is a transition applied.
Rendering
Green - Can play the transition in real-time
Orange - May play back in real time but may not be perfect
Red - The computer isn't fast enough to play back the transition in real-time and the transition must be rendered.
Ctrl + R is the shortcut to render everything
Extras
Save a favorite transition
Set the default transition
